FORMER ST. PROCOPIUS ABBOT LAID TO REST

Nearly 300 people filed into the church at St. Procopius Abbey Monday afternoon to join the monks as they said farewell to one of their own -- the Rt. Rev. Valentine Skluzacek, 85, a former abbot. Two bishops, five abbots, including the Rev. Hugh Anderson, the present abbot of St. Procopius Abbey, and 50 priests participated in the nearly 1 1/2-hour mass.

In ceremonial robes, to the uplifting melody of the monks chanting Latin verses, the priests committed their former spiritual leader to his final resting place.
