Stanley R. "Babe" Chmielewski, 78, of Lockport, died Saturday, Jan. 8, 2000 at Provena St. Joseph Medical Center in Joliet.

He was born in Lemont and was a lifelong resident of the Lockport and Lemont area.

He was employed by UNOCAL for 32 years, retiring in 1984. He served in the 143rd Infantry Regiment during World War II and was a prisoner of war for a time.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Conrad and Catherine (nee Suida) Chmielewski; brother Max; and sister Helen Chmielewski.
