We came, we voted, we moved on. Observations on Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2000, known in Ecuador as the 39th anniversary of the day President Jose Maria Velasco Ibarra resigned after months of popular unrest and in America as the first election of the rest of our lives:
• There is perhaps no greater or more beautiful sign in the world than the one we see outside our polling places as we head in to cast a ballot: "NO ELECTIONEERING." While admittedly one of our more awkward gerunds, the word has an understated power.
