Radium levels in Fox Valley water wells could cause bone cancer in those who drink it. But only if they drink a lot of it.

Approximately two liters every day for 70 years might do it.

In any case, environmental experts say, the odds of developing a health problem from water-borne radium are very long.

The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) determined the radium content in water wells shouldn't exceed 5 picocuries per liter.

But EPA officials have since recommended that standard be relaxed to 20 picocuries per liter.
