DRESDEN SHUTDOWN COULD JOLT TAX BODIES COMED PLANT: MAJOR ECONOMIC, TAX IMPACT

COAL CITY -- Dresden Nuclear Power Station is the biggest employer and the biggest taxpayer in Grundy County.
With a cloud of troubles hanging over ComEd's nuclear fleet and a recent announcement the company will ship in electricity from elsewhere this summer, the natives here are beginning to worry about a future without Dresden.
"It'd be devastating," said Tom Runty, business manager for Coal City schools.
"I'd probably be assigned to handle the elimination of my position."
Property taxes from Dresden make up about 70 percent of the school district's annual budget.
