WORLD-RENOWNED ANNIE OAKLEY OFTEN VISITED RELATIVES IN JOLIET

In the early 1900s, Annie Oakley visited Joliet so often that a street was named after her. Oakley Avenue was the street where her husband's brother lived.

At the age of 16, the world's best known woman sharp shooter married Frank Butler in 1876. He was an Irish immigrant whose brother, William J. Butler, came to Joliet.

William worked at the old Boston Store and later was a floor manager for the Goldblatt's Department Store.

Frank and Annie were often guests in William's home on Oakley Avenue, which is near West Park.
