PROTECTING a majority of only 760 votes in the 1999 election, Clwyd West Labour AM Alun Pugh has much to lose.
And with strong opposition from the Conservative candidate and former fuel protest leader Brynle Williams,Clwyd West could once again be one of the key contests of the election.
The pressure on Mr Pugh, the Deputy Minister for Education and Lifelong Learning, is particularly high - at number seven on Labour's regional list, the party would have to perform badly on May 1 for Mr Pugh to take a North Wales seat should he lose Clwyd West.
