This article is a combination of two submitted by the authors itemizing joint close air support (JCAS) shortcomings in Operation Anaconda and recommending doctrine and tactics, techniques and procedures (TTPs) to fix the shortcomings. The authors' contend that JCAS procedures in Afghanistan were dangerous for our joint forces and imply that JCAS in Iraq, if we go to war in Iraq and use the same procedures, could result in fratricide--given the predictable increase in the size, tempo and intensity of combat operations.
