William F. Stineman, 53, of Dayton, a free-lance writer, teacher and tennis player, died Tuesday at his home.

Mr. Stineman was valedictorian of his St. Xavier High School class in Cincinnati and was an Eagle Scout.

He received a bachelor's degree at Princeton University, a master's at the University of Chicago and a law degree at the University of Cincinnati.

He wrote on various topics and also worked as a substitute teacher in the Cincinnati Public Schools.
