Perhaps the most creative and complete alternatives to patriarchy that feminists have created is women's land. Starting in the 1960s and 1970s, small groups of women have come together to purchase tracts of land, build ecological and interesting homes, and create communities based on feminist, egalitarian, and ecological values. Whether these communities are women-only (Owl Farm) or consist of women, men, and children of all ages (Twin Oaks), they provide a way to step outside the patriarchal societies that dominate most of the globe.
