BEIJING, March 17 Asia Pulse - The National People's Congress, China's top legislature, picked Wen Jiabao to succeed Zhu Rongji as the new premier of the State Council, or the "chief executive" of the Chinese cabinet, here on Sunday.
A vice-premier in Premier Zhu's cabinet for five consecutive years since March 1998, Wen was assigned to take charge of the work related to agriculture, rural areas, development planning and finance.
