Mar. 13--MESILLA, N.M.--It's going to costs tourists and visitors more to shop, eat and drink in Mesilla.

In a special election conducted Tuesday voters approved an increase in the town's gross receipts tax, but overwhelmingly nixed the notion of formally changing the town's name to La Mesilla by a 3-to-1 margin.

Town officials will be able to impose a 1/8 of 1 percent municipal infrastructure gross receipts tax for general and infrastructure purposes after voters ...
