A birthmark nearly killed my little girl; It started off as a tiny birthmark.. then it spread. Soon only new laser surgery could save baby Elle from the deadly blemish.(M Health)

Byline: JILL PALMER
MUM Julia Gawthorpe wasn't unduly worried when she noticed the tiny red mark on the top of her newborn baby's left arm.
But within days the mark had grown dramatically and become a deeper red.
By the time daughter Elle was one month old, the rapidly-enlarging, ugly red growth had spread on to her shoulder and under her armpit.
The tightly-stretched skin over the massive growth of blood vessels became ulcerated and painful and bled frequently. At best she would be left with scarring and significant disfigurement.
