Before Congress finished its work last Nov. 22, well-conceived plans for a new wilderness area in Western Washington earned bipartisan consensus. Efforts fell short in only one area: time.

Congress should pick up where it left off and complete work on the Wild Sky Wilderness proposal.

The plan would provide permanent protection for some 106,000 acres of national forest land and salmon-habitat in eastern Snohomish County.
