Anselm Kiefer named this exhibition of eight vast paintings and two monumental sculptures "Merkaba," identified in gallery materials as the Divine Chariot, a vehicle to the Hechaloth, the heavenly palaces in mystical Hebraic teachings predating the cabala. In reference to these texts of spiritual attainment, Kiefer inscribes "Sefer Hechaloth" (Book Palace) in charcoal across a massive sculpture of that title (2001).
