Chevkinite-(Ce), a Ti and REE silicate, has recently been collected in the Hudson Highlands from the Clove (Wilks) Iron mine dump, Monroe, Orange County, New York. The host rock is a granitic pegmatite with oligoclase and hornblende. Chevkinite-(Ce) appears as rounded isometric or elongated patches, from 1 mm to 1 cm in size, that are dark red-brown surrounded by a thin white rim composed mainly of cryptocrystalline silica, a mixture of titanium oxide, and probably some clay minerals. ...
