Trial runs of a new multi-modal freight corridor linking the northeastern U.S. with China via northern Europe and Russia are due to take place late this year or early next year. The Northern East-West (NEW) freight corridor--a northern "Silk Road"--will offer an alternative to existing routes, especially for time-sensitive freight.
