Feb. 28--MESILLA, N.M.--The town's board of trustees discussed at length Monday the pros and cons of a proposal that would formally change the town's name to La Mesilla.

"The bottom line is that we can't decide for the people what to formally call the town," Mayor Michael Cadena said, referring to a March 11 referendum election where voters in Mesilla will decide if the town should be formally named La Mesilla.
