An article in Wednesday's paper inaccurately said a certain veteran of the battle of Iwo Jima died in January. The man named in the article, Jack Groskin, of Fayetteville, is alive.

March 10, 1945. 0700 hours. Paul Maloff, an artillery observer for the 4th Marine Division, lay in a foxhole carved out of the black sand of Iwo Jima. Enemy fire struck the beach around him. Just inches away, two Marines were hit by a shell. They died.
