"This agreement is evidence of the EU's commitment to strengthen trade and investment links with Vietnam. It is also a step in the direction ahead of Vietnam's accession to the WTO", said EU Trade Commissioner Pascal Lamy. The Commission will shortly be sending the Council the necessary proposals for early adoption and implementation of the agreement.
The main features of the agreement, which will run for three years, until end-2005, are as follows:
