Lillie Langtry is quite likely the best known Lake County winegrower, at least in some circles. Langtry, known in her heyday as "Jersey Lil," as an English actress of some fame and a close (very close) personal friend of Edward VII. During one of her tours of the United States, she took a few days off from the stage in San Francisco and visited Napa and Lake counties. She put her money on Lake and could well be credited with being the first to realize the potential of Lake County as a winegrowing region.
