Legislation has been introduced in Spain to allow a new denomination of origin (DO) called Pago. The new regulation will allow estate wine producers, whether within or outside an existing DO, to become a Pago. The wines must be from the estate vineyard, made and bottled on the property. The estate must also have a reputation for very high quality. (Pago, which means payment in Spanish, has a secondary meaning of "a rural area or residence.")
