Regence BlueCross BlueShield of Oregon, the state's largest health insurer, has closed its Eugene office in a cost-cutting move, eliminating 24 local jobs.

Regence will continue to serve the Eugene-Springfield market, but out of its Salem office, spokeswoman Cathy Lavin said Monday.

"It made sense for us to consolidate and have a single mid-valley office," she said. "It's just very expensive to keep multiple offices open, and it's a business decision we made."
