Fort Lee, N.J., Merchants Hail Plan for Empty Downtown Acreage.

Jan. 31--FORT LEE, N.J.--With their businesses set in the shadow of the George Washington Bridge, merchants on Main Street and Lemoine Avenue see a steady stream of cars passing by every day.

Many would like more drivers to park, shop, and dine rather than travel through to another destination. A proposed $1 billion plan to develop 16 acres just south of the bridge, including restaurants and stores, could help make that happen, merchants say.
