Abstract

This paper stems from a University of Waterloo graduate workshop on shared management issues faced by Quetico Provincial Park in Ontario, and the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness and Voyageurs National Park in Minnesota. In the absence of an integrated planning framework across the US-Canada border, protected areas management issues tend to be tackled informally. The different political environments of the three areas have compounded problems of co-ordination in this biophysical region.
