ON the surface it appears terribly self-effacing, even ingenuous, but that epitome of the British heartfelt soul sound Paul Young insists he was always a reluctant solo star and feels far more comfortable within the boundaries of a band. Oddly, he's chosen as the vehicle for this presumably protective layer a whooping, anarchic outfit called Los Pacaminos, loosely based on the Mexican mariachi combos that plague every town south of the Rio Grande and the more angst-ridden TexMex medleys peddled mostly in the southern states of the USA.
