A sideboard is no ordinary piece of furniture. Ranging in style from the traditional larger cabinet supported by narrow legs to a more solid streamlined look of the 1940s (above), it has been a centerpiece of the American interior since the late 18th century, when homes expanded to include dining rooms. Today it is more popular than ever, with people entertaining more often in larger homes.
