ABSTRACT
Until recently, the main emphasis on the use of certain isolated fibers, such as the cellulosic fibers, was on adding bulk to pet foods. Now, fermentable fiber sources provide added technological value to pet products and provide further physiological health promotion.
Dietary fiber, although not always defined as such, has been consumed for centuries and has been recognized as having health benefits. Since the definition for dietary fiber was proposed by Hipsley in 1953, there have been many revisions.
