RICHMOND -- State legislators are being asked to formally express regret over the closing of public schools in Prince Edward County in 1959, an act of defiance against court-ordered desegregation that disrupted the education of 2,300 black children.

Del. Viola O. Baskerville, D-Richmond, introduced a resolution this week at the request of several constituents who lived in Prince Edward in the 1950s and were affected by the school closings.
