MANCHESTER United chief executive Peter Kenyon today called for a radical shake-up of English football that would halve the number of professional clubs.

More than 90 per cent of clubs are thought to have serious financial problems and Kenyon believes that only a fundamental restructuring can save the game from ruin.

He said: "There has to be a review of the structure.

Quite clearly I don't think you can have four divisions of professional football any longer.

"There are too many clubs.
