What is the state of Silicon Valley as we start 2003? Generally not very good, but depending where you look, this goes from good, to bad, to truly ugly.

Housing prices have held up rather well. It's good news for those who already own expensive Silicon Valley houses, but not for frustrated employees who would have liked to take advantage of a dramatic drop in prices and purchase a home that does not require an hour-plus commute to work.
