PROJECT OVERVIEW:

The local GERDAU S.A. is expected to restart long-stalled plans to build a new steel mill in Sao Paulo state by mid-2003 as long as demand improves. The project was first considered in 2001 but it was subsequently shelved because of a government-imposed energy-rationing scheme at the time in conjunction with a fall in demand.
