SAN FRANCISCO _ No California judge has ever been removed from office solely for demeanor problems.

Contra Costa Superior Court Judge Bruce Van Voorhis could be the first after defending himself Wednesday before an increasingly skeptical state discipline panel.

The judge has been found guilty of 11 instances of misconduct, most involving mistreatment of staff, attorney and jurors.

Wednesday's hearing in front of the state Commission on Judicial Performance centered on his discipline. Commissioners began deliberating after the hearing and will announce their decision ...
