Abstract: The history of Captain Video, television's first foray into science fiction and fantasy, illustrates the way early writers and producers created formulas for telling stories on television while teaching young viewers about a dangerous Cold War world. Captain Video aired nationally over the DuMont Television Network from 1949 to 1955.
