THE NORTH American phosphoric acid industry has been characterized as generally balanced to tightening during 2002. The shift toward more purified phosphoric acid (PPA) production and away from less elemental (thermal) acid production has helped to balance the market, producers say. Demand has been steady to flat, depending on end use. Pricing has also been steady, the last industry-wide price increase having been implemented during the summer of 2001.
