THE FIRST severe weather conditions of the winter have already caught out thousands of motorists who are ill-prepared to cope with floods and standing water.

Emergency services say that tens of thousands of calls were received from stranded motorists nationwide as torrential rain affected many parts of Britain.

But evenwhen floods subside, standing water remains a major hazard for motorists, many of whom are risking personal safety and the well-being of their vehicles by not treating the conditions with proper respect.
