Q: When are electromagnetic locks permitted on exit doors?

A: It depends--on a lot of factors. This is one of the most commonly confused and abused sections in the code. It may take more than one column to sort this issue out. I'll make an attempt here. We'll start with a little history on the subject of special egress control devices.
