Hughes lays off 60 workers at its Carlsbad division

Carlsbad-based Hughes Technology Center has laid off 60 of its 650 workers and cut the work load for the remaining employees in response to a drop in demand for its products used in the space program.

After telling 60 workers their jobs had been eliminated, Hughes administrators at the Technology Center delivered the rest of the bad news: the remaining 590 employees will work four-day weeks every other week.
