IT WAS meant to be a secret, but everyone half-knew; and Malcolm Forbes, who died last February, will therefore be remembered as one of America's richest and most flamboyant "closet" homosexuals. The epitaph seems ironic for someone who so relentlessly promoted himself as the champion of macho capitalism; but it is not. Forbes's ambivalent attitude towards his own sexuality sums up the man.
