THIS article presents estimates of gross product (value added) of nonbank U.S. affiliates of foreign companies--the affiliates' contribution to U.S. gross domestic product (GDP)--for 1977-87.(1) Gross product is an economic accounting measure of production. For an individual business, it can be defined as sales plus inventory change, less purchases from other businesses. Thus, it measures value added by the business.
