2002 NOV 3 - (NewsRx.com & NewsRx.net) -- While many fainting episodes are harmless, some foreshadow dangerous cardiac or other medical conditions and call for careful follow-up by a doctor, government researchers say.

The warning was published in the New England Journal of Medicine.

"Occasionally, it is an indication of a serious disorder and a harbinger of sudden death, particularly for people with a history of coronary disease," said Dr. William G. Stevenson, a cardiologist at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston. He cowrote an accompanying editorial. ...
