IT'S HARD TO IMAGINE, but on a tiny island just off the cold, blustery coastline of south east Sweden on the Baltic Sea is an early 20th Century naval prison housing the most creative dedicated outlet for training digital talent in Europe.

Hyper Island is located in the small town of Karlskrona, itself built on an archipelago of 33 islands extending 5km. The school building, listed since 1992, was designed in 1894 by a local architect called Bothen. In 1910 it opened as a prison for insubordinate naval recruits.
