An electronic keyboard knocked out a jazzy blues riff, complete with drums and a saxophone lead in Carolyn Horn's office, and the music teacher cranked the volume up a notch. There were no musicians in the room, just electronic equipment creating the toe-tapping improvised

sound.

This isn't exactly what you'd expect from Horn, 60, a retired concert pianist who once toured Europe and the United States and who specializes in the technically challenging realm of 20th century classical music.
