Like all dictators, Saddam Hussein has a high opinion of his capacities. Comparing himself to Nebuchadnezzar and Saladin, historic rulers of Baghdad, he makes the claim that he too will go down in history as one of the greatest of men. Accordingly he has built a personality cult, complete with grandiose self-flattering monuments, and weapons of mass destruction to consummate power. The reality is not so flattering: His campaigns against Iran and Kuwait were textbook examples of how not to conduct policy. He has sacrificed a million Iraqis in war, murdered another million at home, ...
