SAN FRANCISCO _ Two new studies add heft to the already weighty evidence that extra pounds significantly raise a woman's risk of breast cancer.

Gaining more than 38 pounds during pregnancy increased the chances of getting breast cancer after menopause by 40 percent, a study in Finland found.

A second study in the United States found that women who have insulin resistance, a frequent precursor of diabetes that's been linked to being overweight, have higher odds of developing breast cancer.
