New sex discrimination cases hit Merrill and WestLB.

Merrill Lynch and WestLB are the latest finance houses to face allegations of sex discrimination by female former employees. The cases emerged as UK government legislation looks set to increase the numbers of such claims by forcing disclosure of pay levels.Merrill Lynch faces a claim for sex discrimination, equal pay and unfair dismissal from a Mrs E Bowman. According to the Employment Tribunal, the case was due to begin last week but has been postponed, which usually means the parties are negotiating a settlement. Merrill Lynch declined to comment.
