IN A radio broadcast for Farming Today, Robert Dubourdieu Best (c.1889-1967) of The Cairn, Aghalee, Co Antrim, spoke on the subject of breeding Shorthorn cattle.
At this time, he was an acknowledged authority on the breed. Indeed, this was formally recognised when, a decade later, he was made president of the Shorthorn Society of the United Kingdom and Ireland (1966/67).
Many farmers in the Province would have known Mr Best. He was a prominent member of both the Royal Ulster Agricultural Society and Ulster Farmers' Union. ...
