Dear Sgt. Shaft

I work for a large city agency, a fire department, and have recently been turned down for educational tuition assistance based on the fact that I receive veterans benefits. I served over five years in the Air Force and was honorably discharged for medical reasons after an accident on the job.

While on active duty, I, like most veterans, paid into the Montgomery GI Bill, expecting to use it after discharge. I have applied for GI Bill benefits this semester but, as of yet, I haven t received my ...
