I'm a little late with my opinion on the by-line change, but did want to express it nonetheless.
My feeling is that a little pride never hurt. I understand the marketing considerations behind the change, but I think heritage and reputation also matter, along with long-term reader loyalty. I've been a Sing Out! reader since 1966, a subscriber most of that time, and I always thought of Sing Out! as THE Folk Song Magazine. No American periodical currently being published even comes close in its longevity, diversity, journalistic quality, or educational value. Sing ...
