Beyond the numerous shopping centers in Lake County is an economic fact of life that has some experts pitching an urgent wake-up call.

Lake, like other counties, has seen its economy sag. Filling the gaps left when businesses close or consolidate is a top priority, but there is a parallel and equally important goal that has nothing to do with what is already here, they say.
